Do you have little ones or like to enjoy a good nostalgic bedtime story? Abilene Texas is the Storybook Capital of America. When you visit Abilene make sure you stop and check out the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature. It’s the largest collection of storybook sculptures that bring the characters to life in 25 sculptures. If you are in Abilene Texas in June, you have to check and see if you’re there in time for the three-day festival, which turns downtown into enchanting storybook land.
Abilene Texas also offers museums, one being The Grace located in a historic building. The Grace exhibits American and Texas art, of the present and the past. Another museum Abilene offers is a memorial for the 12 armored division “Hellcats' ', an experience of World War II through their eyes. At the 12th armored division memorial museum, you can view artifacts, photographs, oral histories, weapons, uniforms, vehicles, dioramas, and a holocaust memorial the story of those who were comprised the 12th.
Abilene also provides it’s community a center for Contemporary arts, this allows 70+ artist studios to inspire and display their work.
